Here at SPACE trailers, Minnesota is our home, and serves as our everyday inspiration to get outside and adventure. Here are some of our top picks for places in Minnesota to visit. There are over 75 Minnesota state parks to choose from, so we picked a few favorites to visit.

Voyageurs National Park

No list of Minnesota nature is complete without a mention of Minnesota’s only national park. Voyageurs national park features beautiful lakes, hiking, fishing and canoeing. While a majority of the campsites within Voyageurs National Park are paddle-in only, the nearby community has drive-in campgrounds.

The Boundary Waters Area

Just west of Voyageurs is some of the largest and most prized wilderness in the lower 48. The boundary waters is more than a million acres of lakes, forest, and wetlands surrounded by national forest. While much of the boundary waters is only navigable by canoe, the local state and national forest offers loads of opportunities for primitive or drive-in campgrounds of varying amenities. Around Ely, visit the classic Kawishiwi falls, or hang out in downtown Ely. There are also great museums and kid friendly wildlife centers in the area such as the international wolf center and the North American bear center.

The North Shore

The Duluth - Grand Marais area, colloquially referred to as The North Shore, is a highlight reel of Minnesota nature. Several of Minnesota’s best state parks are found along highway 61, including Tettegouche State Park, Palisade Head, and Gooseberry Falls State Park. The parks along 61 are among the most popular in the state, so consider visiting on a weekday. There are also a wide variety of car accessible public and private campgrounds with any variety of facilities necessary. Duluth itself is a large city and offers many amenities as well as safe camping with amenities within city limits.

The Mississippi River Valley

Serving as the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin, the Mississippi spans nearly the entire length of the United States. The wide variety of wilderness areas, state parks and small river towns offer a plethora of recreation opportunities. For cultural sites visit towns like Winona, Lake Pepin, or Red Wing. For natural areas, visit parks like Great River Bluffs State Park, Frontenac State Park, or Levee Park. Camping is available in state parks, some towns, or in private campgrounds all across highway 61.
